Menstrual Problems & Nutrition

Menstrual problems affect a considerable number of women. Surprisingly what you eat (or what you don’t, for that matter) may have considerable influence on your symptoms.

Try these tips to help ease PMS and menstrual disturbances:

  1. Consume greater amounts of fresh fruit and veg.
  2. Eat fruit and veg which contain high levels of antioxidants.
  3. Each day have a tablespoon of ground mixed seeds – sunflower, sesame, pumpkin, linseed. You can purchase bags at your local health store.
  4. Increase the amounts of fish and poultry you eat in comparison to red meat.
  5. Avoid alcohol.
  6. Avoid processed foods.
  7. Graze: eat 5 or 6 small meals per day.
  8. Increase soy in your diet e.g. tofu, soy milk, or take soy capsules. Soy helps to balance hormones.
