Choosing a Health Club

Finding a new health and fitness club to suit your needs is not always easy. But here are a number of pointers to help you in your decision. Remember that the more expensive clubs are not necessarily the best.

  1. Ideally the club should be within a 10-minute walk or drive from your home or place of work. Any longer and you increase the chances that you will talk yourself out of going.
  2. Check out the types and variety of equipment available – do they suit your needs? Are they well maintained and in good order?
  3. Check out the qualifications of the trainers – they should be members of accredited national organization. Ask if you can sit in on any training sessions, see the trainers in action. Are they competent, attentive, professional?
  4. Look closely at the general condition of the club. Is it clean? Are the changing rooms well facilitated? Are there clean washing facilities with hot water?
  5. Make note of the opening times – do they tie in with your daily schedule?
  6. Are the staff friendly, knowledgeable, understanding?
