Choosing A Health Club – All The Right Questions

Never sign up for a health club without first asking all the right questions. What may appear a suitable club may, on closer inspection, be the completely wrong one for you to choose. Only by making enquiries will you ever find out. If you don’t you might be in for a very unpleasant time.

  1. Find out if there is a trial period: you can then sample the wears and if you don’t like you are not tied into the club for a long and wasteful period.
  2. Ask how many members are currently at the club and whether there is a ceiling on the total numbers. Some climbs have a “cram ‘em in” approach to fitness. The more members the more potential profits. These are not the clubs to consider. Who wants to turn up at the gym and find there are 20 other people queued up to use the rowing machine when you want to.
  3. Are there special women-only/men-only sessions? Some people prefer not to exercise in front of the opposite sex. A club should cater for all its members needs.
  4. How qualified are the instructors? Go on, ask to see their qualifications. Are they trained in first aid? – they should be.
  5. What is the club’s policy on health and safety? Have they been passed by the local authorities and do they have the appropriate certificate?
  6. What are the club’s cancellation and refund policies? You will need to take into account any special fees when considering the cost of your club membership.
  7. Ask around about whether the club has been the subject of any complaints. Enquire at the local authorities.
