Beating The Hangover
If your Sundays are commonly spent recovering from the
alcoholic excesses of the previous night then the following
might come as much-needed advice.
Once you have a hangover there is very little you can do
to remove the associated feelings, however these tips may
reduce the symptoms:
- Antacids and bland carbohydrate-rich foods like crackers
can help settle your stomach.
- Drinking fruit juice the day after may lessen dehydration
levels.
- Aspirin may diminish headache pain. But if there is
alcohol taken before too much aspirin can be a toxic combination
– even hours after you have stopped drinking.
Of course it is better than you don’t have a hangover
in the first place.
- Alternate non-alcoholic drinks with alcoholic drinks
to avoid dehydration.
- While drinking, eat food, especially carbohydrates,
which helps the body absorb alcohol more slowly.
- Be aware of what you are drinking. Purer drinks, such
as vodka or white wine, contain fewer hangover-causing
distillates than do darker ones.
- Pay attention to how much you drink. If you get a hangover,
drink less the next time. And, of course, you can always
decide not to drink.
