Acne - An Answer To The Curse
Acne is a common problem amongst young men. Over 90% of
us chaps suffer from it at some stage; with 5-10% severely.
So what is this bane of our lives, and how can we take care
of it ourselves?
Essentially, acne is a skin condition which results from
clogging and inflammation of the oil glands. The inflammation
is caused by bacteria trapped in the glands and when our
bodies fight back against these invaders we see those typical
whiteheads and blackheads on the skin surface.
The common treatments for acne are based on benzoyl peroxide
- a substance which can be used very effectively to manage
existing spots and halt their further progress.
However, besides specific treatments, there are additional
steps you should adopt to reduce flare-ups.
- Wash your face at least twice a day. Use a mild unscented
soap and preferably one that is medicated.
- Change your washcloth regularly - damp cloths harbour
bacteria.
- Avoid sunburn.
- Avoid extreme stress.
- Maintain regular exercise.
- Avoid humid atmospheres - hot, steamy kitchens (?!)
- Maintain healthy nutrition - reduce fatty foods. Increase
fresh fruit and vegetables; and drink plenty of water
to avoid skin drying.
