Healthguider’s Healthy Nutrition

Souping Up

Ever wondered how you can keep hunger at bay in the late afternoon and ensure you don’t overindulge. Well it seems that a group of French nutrition scientists have found the answer: eat soup with lots of vegetable chunks in it.

Beware, not any type of soup will do we’re told – those veggie chunks are highly important.

In their study they compared hunger levels in three different groups of people: those who ate vegetables in water (can’t imagine anything worse!); those on strained veggie soup; and finally those who were given the chunky soup.

The results? Those on the chunky soup reported far less subsequent hunger pangs, and furthermore, for all you weightwatchers out their, on average they consumed 150 calories less at lunch and 100 less calories during their evening meal.

The lesson for the day: think soup, think chunky, think thinner.
