Healthguider’s Healthy Nutrition

Eat Healthily Even If You Have No Appetite

Sometimes, when you're feeling ill, you just don't have an appetite. At other times, certain medicines or treatments you take can cause your appetite to decline. It's still vitally important to maintain good nutrition even when you don't have an appetite.

The following tips can help you plan more appealing meals and snacks:

  • Don't rely on your appetite. Plan your meals and snacks on a schedule.
  • Eat and drink slowly.
  • Limit fluid intake during meals, because liquids create a feeling of fullness.
  • Vary the colour and texture of food at mealtime to make it more appealing.
  • Create a pleasant atmosphere at mealtime.
  • Cold foods, such as salads or sandwiches, are usually more appetizing than hot foods.
